The plaintiff may have been exceeding the posted speed limit. A metallurgist’s testimony that a bolt broke because it had been over-tightened was a significant factor in the settlement of that case. Also, the defendant’s expert motorcycle mechanic who routinely over-tightened bolts was the only person who had ever experienced a failure of the same kind of bolt. Settlement was obtained.
• Represented a motorcyclist for a severe leg fracture he suffered when a fire truck pulled out in front of him at a crowded intersection. He did not hear the siren or see the emergency lights of the fire truck as it entered the intersection. A settlement was obtained despite the fact that the case was set for trial soon after Sept. 11, 2001, and the defendant was, of course, a fireman.
