Mr. O’Connell graduated from Syracuse University College of Law in 1981.

While at Syracuse University Law School, he participated in two National Trial Competitions and was awarded the New York State Bar Association’s Award for Outstanding Trial Advocacy.

Mr. O’Connell has, in fact, practiced Personal Injury law for the past 25 years and has won 17 of the last 18 cases that he tried to a jury. He loves to try cases; and he has extensive trial experience. He wins cases because of his steadfast practice and belief that extensive and proper case preparation leads to successful arbitration, mediation and jury verdicts.

Mr. O’Connell is the managing partner for the firm’s Personal Injury cases that arise in Florida, particularly Miami-Dade and Broward counties. He will be the first person that you will meet with in our Florida offices; and he will have regular contact with you throughout the handling of your important Personal Injury claim.

Mr. O’Connel handles the firm’s cruise-ship litigation cases and has filed and litigated numerous cruise ship accident cases in Florida. The venue restriction on the back of your cruise line ticket will probably require that you bring your case in the Federal Court for the Southern District of Florida or in the State Courts of Southern Florida, and Mr. O’Connel has extensive experience in handling cruise ship accident claims in these jurisdictions. He has never lost a cruise-ship accident case.

Mr. O’Connel is also the firm’s lead aviation counsel and handles the Firm’s aviation cases and heads our firm’s aviation accidents department. Mr. O’Connel, a licensed pilot, has handled over 100 major aviation cases and has also never lost an aviation case. If you, and/or a member of your family, were involved in an aviation accident, the firm will promptly arrange to have both a local senior partner and Mr. O’Connell present at your initial interview regardless of which office or which state that you wish to meet with us. For example, if you or a family member was involved in an aviation accident in Los Angeles, California then our local senior partner for LA as well as Mr. O’Connell will meet with you in-person at one of our convenient offices in the Los Angeles area. The firm will provide all travel for Mr. O’Connell to meet with you in person regarding your important aviation case. Mr. O’Connel has been admitted pro hac vice to practice law in several other states and jurisdictions and he, therefore, supports our senior partners throughout the country in the handling of the firm’s aviation cases.

Mr. O’Connell, Admitted to the Patent Bar (US Patent and Trademark Office), also has been assigned to the firm’s major pharmacutical/drug litigation cases and serves as lead trial counsel on these cases.

Mr. O’Connell is also an advanced open water scuba diver and has handled scuba diving cases in multiple states from Massachusetts to Hawaii.

Mr. O’Connell is licensed to practice law in Florida, Massachusetts and Colorado. Since he is one of the firm’s best trial lawyers he has been requested to serve a lead counsel in many major trials in these
jurisdictions. He is also admitted to the Federal Bar in the First and Eleventh Circuits. He has also acted as a judge for the American Arbitration Association.
