School bus involved in wreck in Woodland Park

A school bus crashed Wednesday afternoon when police suspect it turned in front of traffic as it neared Woodland Park.

None of the 14 children in the bus were injured in the wreck, which happened around 4:10 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. 24 and Aspen Garden Way, according to Woodland Park police.

Police said the bus turned left from U.S. 24 onto Aspen Garden Way in front of a car headed the opposite direction on the highway. The vehicles ended up against a guardrail.

The bus driver, who was fading in and out of consciousness, was taken to Penrose Hospital, police said. One person in the car suffered minor injuries, police said.

The bus belonged to Colorado Springs Christian School, though none of the students on board attended the school’s Woodland Park campus.
