Auto Pedestrian Accident Near University of Denver

The driver fled the scene, but he came back later…
The Denver police arrested a man who left the scene of an accident in which he struck a pedestrian with his car. The driver later returned after being persuaded by his parents that it was the right thing to do.
The accident occurred less than two blocks from the University of Denver campus around 1:50am Saturday, March 13th at the intersection of Evans Avenue and Josephine Street around 1:50 a.m. Saturday.
When police arrived they found the victim 24 year old Lindsey Howland in critical condition. Lindsey was taken to Swedish Hospital, said Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson.
After Lindsey Howland was hit the driver of the sports utility vehicle fled the scene, said police.
The driver of the SUV, Robert Jesse Gallegos, arrived back at the scene with his parents. Police arrested him on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident, vehicular assault and a DUI., said police.
Gallegos’ 34-year-old sister, Lola Gallegos, was in the car with her brother and said her brother was driving because she was too drunk to drive her own sports utility vehicle. According to Gallegos, Robert Jesse Gallegos performed a sobriety test at a traffic stop less than 30 minutes before the crash, and he was allowed him to drive away by the police.
She said she did not see the her brother hit the pedestrian.
