Aviation Disasters

Aviation disasters require specialized handling. Our firm is dedicated to the prompt investigation of aviation-related accidents and loss of life because of the negligence of airlines, aircraft manufacturers and regulatory agencies charged with airway and airport oversight.

There are usually several factors that cause any plane crash. Aviation accidents are caused by pilot error, faulty equipment, FAA regulation violations, structural problems of the aircraft, weather, faulty maintenance, and/ or the negligence of FSS employees, air traffic controllers and line personnel.

It is important to have experienced and knowledgeable attorneys working with you to help determine the best and most productive avenue of investigation and handling of your case.

Practical experience makes the difference in successful case preparation. John O’Connell, Esq. is the managing partner for our firm’s aviation department.

John O'Connell is a Commercial Pilot (Single-Multi Engine Land and Sea with Instrument Rating) and an experienced aviation lawyer. He has rotor, turbine and jet time and has been trying and settling aviation cases for the past twenty-four years.

Mr. O’Connell has been flying regularly since 1978.  He, therefore, has acquired unique and invaluable experience in representing people and their families who have suffered injuries, damages and losses as a result of air-craft accidents.

Mr. O’Connell believes that a successful person combines his avocation with his vocation. Capitalizing on his interest in aviation, Mr. O’Connell has perspnally handled large airline and light aircraft crash matters for the past 24 years. He has also represented large aviation insurers for companies such as AVEMCO, AIG, and Aviation Underwriting Specialists, Inc. He also worked for other national insurers and companies defending general liability cases.

After working on numerous light aircraft crash cases for the defense and for insurance companies and learning their business and their claims handling procedures, in 1991 he then began working for plaintiffs (the injured persons or families of the deceased) who had been involved in avoidable mid-air collisions and other types of aircraft disasters. He has represented numerous families of persons who died as a result of unnecessary and avoidable mid-air collisions and other types of negligent and irresponsible acts and omissions resulting in aircraft disasters. He has tremendous aviation law experience on both the defense and plaintiff aviation cases; and he will therefore serve you well in your aviation claim and litigation.

At the Muhr Firm, we assign your aviation case to both an experienced personal injury lawyer with 20 years of trial experience in the state where the air craft accident occurred as well as with Mr. John O’Connell, Esq.
